6 Non-AppleFest Festivals We Wish Existed

Author: Grace McBride

By the time the Ithaca Apple Festival is over each year, we all wish there was another festival we could look forward too. Sometimes waiting 365 days is just too long before we can indulge ourselves in another apple cider donut. Here’s our list of all the festivals we wish Ithaca had to pass the time:

1) Cornell Film Festival

Because we could all use a break from Netflix.

2) Winter Festival

Since Cornell is covered in snow more often than not, it only makes sense to celebrate the frozen precipitation. From snowball fights and ice sculptures to paper snowflake crafts, there’s no better way to procrastinate from doing school work.

3) Mardi Gras

Admit it. We’re all jealous of the New Orleans folk who have their own special holiday. If the pounds of beads and Cajun food aren’t enough to entice you, the fun floats and exciting music are sure to draw you in. The streets of Collegetown won’t know what hit them.

4) Festival of Lights

Imagine a night of releasing hundreds of lanterns on the Slope with your closest friends? This magical festival may not be Ultra or Oktoberfest, but there’s something about paper lanterns that is beyond magical.

5) Hot Air Balloon Festival

There’s always that one hot air balloon you spot floating above campus. Of course it’s probably not even logistically possible – but it’s cool to think we could all be even farther up above Cayuga’s Waters.

6) Cultural Food Celebration

With such a variety of cultures on campus, what better way to ‘come together’ than over some ethnic dishes? Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone you came just for the free food.

There actually is a Cornell Film Festival held at the Schwartz center. This Spring we are hosting our third annual Centrally Isolated Film Festival which showcases student films from multiple different upstate NY schools.
