Attention fashionistas! Ever wonder if your dream to pursue a career in the fashion industry can become a reality? Well, now you finally have the opportunity! Presented by Cornell’s student run organization, Careers in Fashion Industry, this year’s Fashion Speaks Gala is the perfect opportunity to learn and experience what it’s like to be part of the fashion industry.
This Saturday, April 9th, from 8pm-11pm in the HEB Commons, you are cordially invited to join Cornell Alumni executives in the fashion industry, as they share insight on how Cornell shaped their career paths. Slope Media has created a list of six convincing reasons why this gala is inspiring and definitely worth your time regardless of your exposure to fashion:
1. You can channel your inner Kendall Jenner.
Dig through your closet for the one dress that was a little too nice for last month’s formal. You don’t want to miss out on one of your only chances to attend a black tie event in college, and it’s a great way to impress the people who spearhead new trends in today’s fashion world.
2. You can indulge in delicious food:
Fresh hors d’oeuvres and chocolate desserts will be passed around courtesy of Cornell Catering. On top of that, Cornell Catering is dedicated to environmental sustainability, giving back to local community service organizations, and hiring Cornell students.
3. You can watch a show-stopping performance by the acclaimed Cornell Hangovers.
The Hangovers have been a hit since 1968, with frequent performances on campus and even internationally. This a cappella group’s original compositions which combine jazz, pop, and traditional choral is sure to blow the Barden Bellas away. Rumor has it they will be performing never before heard songs too!
4. You have the opportunity to win luxury raffle prizes.

If you’re not in HumEc, it’s hard to set aside time to check out the talented work of the undergraduates for the Cornell Costume and Textile Collection. This event is easily the most convenient time to admire displays of over 9,000 items of apparel dating from the 18th century.
6. Instagram opportunities from the red carpet step and repeat.
These days, it’s getting difficult to define your Instagram as original and not #basic. This year’s professional photo-op could be a major key in separating yourself from the overflowing Cornell sunset pictures. It won’t even need a filter!
