As Cornell students, we’re lucky to be surrounded by technologically savvy peers who have a knack for coming up with creative and useful apps. There’s an app for almost everything these days, but there are a still a few more ways technology could make our lives a little easier.

1Ho Plaza Traffic

This app would tell you how many quarter-carders and tablers are on Ho Plaza, giving you an approximation of how many times you’ll get stopped. That way, you’d know if you need to take an alternative route in order to make it to class on time.

2Lunch Line Length

We all know the feeling–you’re starving at 12:55 and beeline to Terrace only to be at the back of the line that ends at the door. This app would tell you the wait times at the popular food places on campus so you’d never be #hangry again.

3iPark on Campus

Finding a parking space on campus during the available parking times is like trying to get into a restaurant in the Commons on a Friday night–you search for a while with little to no results. Check this app at 5pm and hope one of the three front spots at Mann is still open when you get there three minutes later. A reserve function would be nice, but that might be asking for too much.

4Real Talk Weather

Your iPhone weather app just shows clouds all day with no chance of rain, but this app would tell you the truth: bring an umbrella. You’d know if today’s 20 degrees means your Canada Goose or sweating in your lightest jacket before you even make it to class.

5Awkward Encounter Warning

Map out your routes around campus to avoid running into people that will lead to awkward conversations. You would never fear bumping into that kid you met last night at Level B, your random third roommate from freshman year, or the classmate in section who won’t stop asking if you want to study together.

6Find Me a Library Seat

Maybe you like first floor Olin, or maybe second floor Mann cubicles are more your spot. When you know all your favorite spots are already filled, you have an excuse to just stay in bed instead of rushing to the library right after it opens.

7Clean Mail

As an eager freshman, you thought you were being proactive by signing up for multiple clubs. Now you can’t figure out how to get your name off the listserv and your inbox is clogging up. This app would automatically send unwanted emails to your trash folder, so you wouldn’t have to look at them.

8TCAT Tracker

Yes, there’s already a bus app, but no, it is not helpful enough. With this app you would be able to see exactly where the 5:54 is at 5:57, and calculate whether you’re better off walking. You wouldn’t have to worry about missing the TCAT the one time you don’t get to the stop unnecessarily early.
