9 Things to Do Before It Snows

Author: Catherine Giese Ithaca is gorges, but it’s also frozen nine months out of the year. I don’t know about you, but when the cold hits, all I feel like doing is hibernating. It’s important to have fun while you’re studying at this amazing institution. The sun and warmth are rare, so here are some ways to get out and enjoy Ithaca before the snow and ice set in.

1. Ithaca Farmer’s Market

This one is probably on every single list of things to do in Ithaca. Cliche as it may seem, the farmer’s market is a must. Pick up some fresh fruits and veggies, munch on international foods, and smell the flowers, all while sitting by Cayuga’s waters.

2. Chill on the Arts Quad

Bring a blanket and read a book or round up some friends and throw around a frisbee. The Arts Quad is ideal for tanning and people watching. Just don’t get too comfortable without preparing–you might find yourself with a crazy sunburn.

3. CTB Patio

You’re probably going to eat at CTB all year round, but it’s especially nice to lounge and socialize on the patio when the sun’s out.

4. Terrace at Willard Straight

The terrace is closed most of the year, so enjoy it while you can! It has a beautiful view of Cayuga lake, so you’ll get to experience exactly how great it is that we’re far above its waters.

5. Cascadilla Gorge Trail

It’s close to campus and absolutely breathtaking. Go for the gorge and stay for the selfies.

6. Darties

Let a little loose around the barbeque while the workload isn’t too heavy. You’re the youngest you’ll ever be.

7. Apple Fest

This is another Ithaca classic. Eat some apple-themed food, check out some locally made artisan goods, and celebrate fall!

8. Wine Tours

Take advantage of the many wineries around the Ithaca area. Pack some cheese (and bottle openers) to go with your wine and don’t forget to take pictures! New profile pic anyone?
