If you’re lazy like me, Cornell is probably a difficult place to be you. With such a large campus and notorious hills, physical activity is pretty much unavoidable– and with such a demanding course load, you can’t really afford to slack off. It seems Cornell has a culture of industriousness and vitality that, even if it isn’t your thing, can be tough to say no to.
But real talk, laziness is underrated. You get to focus on what’s most important to you, and you save an insane amount of time. If you’re not about that ~active~ life, here are some tips to up your lazy game:
-
Befriend people who have cars.

If you don’t have a car of your own, having a friend who has a car is the next best thing. You don’t want to be a mooch, of course. But getting a ride home from the library at midnight and not having to walk home in the rain or snow makes a world of difference.
-
Take the bus.

Everyone has their own feelings about the TCAT system. And, like, yeah the buses can be unpredictable and sometimes unreliable. But if it is 40 degrees, pouring rain and your only motivation for walking is to “get some exercise”? Do less.
-
Just never walk.

Like, just no.
-
Take shortcuts to class.

I cannot stress this enough. Knowing shortcuts through buildings can not only save you some time and energy on your walk to class, but it can save you from Ithaca’s inclement weather in the gross winter months. Personal favorites: going through Physical Sciences to get to the Bailey Hall/Ag Quad area and the connection combo of Warren, Mann and Plant Science.
-
Use the elevator.

OK, maybe this is just me, but last year I was shamed so hard by the people in my building for taking the elevator up to the second floor. Like, even when I had a humongous load of laundry in my hands and no one held the door for me. If the elevator is there and you want to use it, do it! This is what they were made for! Feel #blessed that we live in a world with such advanced technology!

Order food ahead of time.

Did you know that if you order ahead at CTB you don’t have to wait in line? Or that you can order online with Cornell Dining (via cornell.webfood.com)? #TheMoreYouKnow #KnowledgeIsPower

Use LazyBones.

Laundry sucks, guys. It takes up SO much time and it requires so much energy it’s basically a workout in itself. Save yourself the frustration and have it sent out.
Laziness has earned itself a bad rap. But when you work as hard as we do, any little thing to make our lives easier is a blessing. Don’t let any of your over-active peers pressure you into being active citizens. If that’s not your thing, just do you.
