Acapella United

“We sing covers of songs, but we do it without any instruments. It’s all from our mouths.” –Pitch Perfect

Last year, the movie “Pitch Perfect” brought a whole new perspective on what it means to be apart of a collegiate acapella group. This year, the idea of different groups coming together to sing was brought right here at Cornell this past Friday, September 27th.

Acapella United, an annual benefit performance to raise money for United Way, was put on once again at Bailey Hall as 12 of Cornell’s accapella groups hit the stage. Bailey Hall’s 1,275 seating capacity was nearly filled as parents, students, alumni, and faculty came to watch their favorite groups perform. Songs ranged from Third Eye Blind’s Semi-Charmed Life performed by the all-male group Cayuga’s Waiters to Destiny’s Child Say My Name performed by the all-female group Nothing But Treble.

It was a night dedicated to the appreciation of music and community, and, for the seventh year in a row, was a major success.
