Mr. Watters and crew,
We get it – Cornell is pretty damn liberal. Tell me something I don’t know considering I actually go here. Ithaca in general is pretty damn liberal too. Looking at where donations went from Cornell professors, I really wasn’t that surprised.
Still, I feel that there’s a very simple explanation at hand for why 96% of donations went to Democrat candidates. Well, not just one explanation, but three as I have outlined below:
1. There are currently only two Democrat candidates for President. And Martin O’Malley. The Republicans still have some 15 candidates to choose from. I can barely pick a drink off the Starbucks menu to buy, let alone a Presidential candidate to donate to. I imagine our Republican Professors share this problem.
2. As Republicans, we like money. A lot. So I think that it makes sense for our Professors to be holding on to their money and not want to risk wasting it until we kind of have a better idea of which candidate the Koch brothers are choosing as the nominee.
3. If Donald Trump ends up winning this thing, our donations are kinda pointless anyways. He’s already really rich. Like… realllllly rich.

Moving on. While the professors here may be overwhelming liberal, there are few classes in which those Professors would even be able to push their ideology on students. Being in the social sciences myself, I have yet to experience an overwhelming sense of bias from my professors. I’ve even had conversations with my professors and grad TAs about various issues, and each time they’ve been open to discussion – and I am yet to be be penalized for it. I would imagine liberal students at Liberty University probably find themselves in a similar situation, but I don’t hear them complaining.

Lastly, unlike a lot of people, I get that you’re not a journalist – and neither is Bill O’Reilly, or Brian Williams. I’m also sure the misleading headline gathered more clicks (props to whoever came up with that idea). At the same time, there should be some level of ethics in your profession (is conducting man-on-the-street interviews a real profession?). Let’s be real: you probably interviewed countless individuals who gave great answers to the questions you asked, but they didn’t get to be featured because it wouldn’t fit your agenda. It wouldn’t fit the accusation that Cornell is a bastion of liberal indoctrination.
Cut the crap – it’s time to step out of “Watters’ World” and back into the real world.
Sincerely,
A Realistic Republican
