hey guys- SORRY for the delay in posting. totally my b. spring break went by so damn fast and i wish i had savored every moment of it more than i did. although..it is A LOT hotter this week at school than it was in NYC over break, but that's why I was able to to see LOTS of movies in my spare time :) sadly, the only film i saw in theaters last week was Shutter Island, but it was fantastic. A total psychologically thrilling movie. I suggest those of you who like big twists and turns, conspiracy theories, and psych wards should go see it.  Other than that I watched loads of television, including Gossip Girl (yay its finally back), LOST, of course, and started watching Parenthood as well. Parenthood is a great representation of family drama, similar to that of Brother's and Sisters, with a little less comedy but with some very interesting  plot developments. For example, one of the married couples on the show has a son who has just been diagnosed with asperger's syndrome. It is really interesting to not only see how the child is unique, but also how his parents are learning how to raise him properly. Definitely an interesting show to keep your eye on. Yesterday, I saw The Last Song, which is the film version of Nicolas Spark's novel. I am a sucker for Spark's love stories, and I especially loved this book. It was an amazing combination of a story about summer love and one about the love between father, daughter, and brother. I, however, did not love the film. As with most recreations, the film version just doesn't cut it. But interestingly, I discovered when imdbing the film's cast after seeing it last night that Sparks actually created the idea for the book after Miley Cyrus decided she wanted to portray one of his emotional and more serious characters. He then helped develop a script for the film, and after that he wrote the novel adaptation. How weird. This just shows that it doesn't matter which came first-the book or the movie-I believe the book is usually better. The emotions just aren't as developed in the movie.

82nd Annual Academy Awards.

Tuned in.

Usually love you Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, but you guys are not cutting it. A few jokes with lots of awkward silence. Literally am sitting here cringing because you are making such uncomfortable comments. All they did was point out random actors and make strange (not funny) comments. Maybe the funniest part of their intro was the appearance of floating seeds from Avatar, but even that was a little lame.

My favorite moment was the close up on Clooney. Boy did he look happy to be there... Neil Patrick Harris was..well, Neil Patrick Harris. No matter what he says or does, I’ll always love him. What is with Baldwin’s british accent? Taylor Lautner agreed with me by the looks of his expression.

Robert Downey Jr. rocking the sunglasses. I’m obsessed with him. He and Tina Fey, a better comedic pair than the hosts of the show.

The John Hughes appreciation segment made my night. He directed every astounding movie from the 80's, ones that have shaped the film industry for sure.  When all the actors from his films walked on stage I got the chills. Orgasm.

Did anyone catch the acceptance speech interruption drama that happened on stage for "Best Documentary Short"? Burkett was her name, i think..she said something like "Let the woman talk."  Oh boy. another unfortunately uncomfortable moment.

Haha Ben Stiller dressed in blue, what a comedian.  “I see you. I want to plug my tail, my braid into you dragon.”

Surprise of the night: The two big wins for The Hurt Locker”..not that it wasn't a great movie, but I really thought that Avatar would win one of the two awards, those being "Directing" and "Best Picture." What's great is that Cameron and Bigelow (director of Hurt Locker) are divorced. What a great way for her to appear triumphant.

Overall...eh. Wasn't that great. I'm so glad Sandra Bullock took "Best Actress"-she really deserved it.

Much love,

LR

So, you’re sitting in Mann Library, struggling with random numbers, symbols, and words that you just aren’t grasping. You know you have to work, but you can’t stop thinking about the latest episode of House. We all do it. We sit there for hours, streaming episodes and episodes of missed television, or old-school movies that take our minds off of reality. As much as we may deny it, entertainment intrigues us. We are programmed to search for a glamorous escape from our typical lives. I know this all too well, as I’ve spent oh so many hours watching seasons of television shows, reading People Magazine, and taking trips to the movie theatre. We know that celebrities are only human, but for some reason, we idolize them and talk about their lives as if they’re our BFFs. But, you know what…that is ok. We do it, we love it, and I’m here to help with the obsession.  So let’s get right into it:

glued to tv

Sad News: Goodbye Rob Lowe! It was nice to look at your beautiful face once a week on Brothers and Sisters, so I know I’ll be sad to see you leave. Last week, Lowe announced that he’d be leaving ABC’s hit drama at the end of this season.  We’ve seen Lowe quit before-West Wing anyone? So, perhaps Lowe just isn’t an ensemble cast kind of guy. According to Lowe, he’s tired of playing the romantic lead. Well, we aren’t tired of seeing you as one! So, will Senator McCallister and Kitty divorce? Will he leave town on a shady political escapade? We shall see.

Rob Lowe leaving! New Twist on Lost: In the past few episodes we’ve seen that there are two alternate realities being toyed with this season. I originally supposed it was life on the island and life off the island. Simple as that. However, in the last episode we see that the characters’ lives are very different than we would have guessed. Jack has a son and Hurley is the luckiest guy alive. These would have been their lives, had Jacob not entered them. Had he not selected them as candidates and had they never been drawn to the island, this alternate reality would have been real. What’s really cool is how we see the characters’ lives intertwining even in a reality void of the island.  Destiny. Peace out.
