Hello again from the people who bring you Succubus. In this episode we had a few hiccups, but the music is great. The comments within the show were barely audible due to mic issues. Also the show still starts with a 20 sec buffer from music carrying over during the podcast, but I’m sure you’ll be able to tell when the good stuff starts =)

Jailbait-11/17/2009 Insanity Defense

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009
http://www.slopemedia.org/wp-content/uploads/show_images/smallimage/default.jpg

EPISODE 7:

Laura has a story.

She was pretty secretive in high school: was quiet, kept to herself, was involved in art. No-one really knew a lot about her. So naturally when she was in her senior year she didn’t go around broadcasting what schools she had applied to or where she had been accepted or what school she had decided on. (It was Cornell, obvi.)

So, when her Creative Writing teacher asks if anyone in the class is Cornell-bound in the fall, it’s the first time she lets fly to a group of more than 5 people where she’s headed. Well the next thing out of her teacher’s mouth is “Have you heard about the suicides?”/

We feel that we can assert with 95% confidence that between 89% and 97% of you have been asked a similar questions (Laura has a statistics exam on Thursday, can you tell?). It’s a Cornell cliche.

We also feel we can say with certainty that the majority of you have felt the ubiquitous stress that propagates the rumor.

That being said, in honor of all of you with Hell Weeks out there, who feel like they’re going to go crazy either from lack of sleep or by getting too wrapped up in your metaphysics paper or maybe spending too much time in an enclosed room with the fumes of model glue, we have devoted this week’s playlists to songs about insanity, be it temporary or something a bit more severe.

PLAYLIST:

  1. Girl Anachronism- Dresden Dolls
  2. Manic Depression- The Jimi Hendrix Experience
  3. Where is my Mind?- The Pixies
  4. In the Hospital- Friendly Fire
  5. Temporary Insanity- Alexz Johnson
  6. Crystal Castles vs. HealthAlice Practice- Crystal Castles vs. Health
  7. Schizophrenia- Sonic Youth
  8. Rumpus- Karen O and the Kids
  9. TKO- Le Tigre
  10. Standing in the Way Of Control-Gossip
  11. The Kids Are Sick Again- Maximo Park
  12. Lithium-Nirvana
