Getting to Know SA President Jordan Berger

Author: Priscilla Blum

Meet Jordan Berger. She is a junior from Fort Wayne, Indiana studying ILR with a minor in Law and Society. Jordan has been actively involved with the Student Assembly for her past three years here at Cornell. On Tuesday, she was elected to be the next Student Assembly president.

Her platform is Better with Berger. The three-pronged program promises Better Representation, Better Outreach, and Better Policies.

In terms of representation, Jordan plans to hold representatives to a higher standard. She will have frequent training and leadership development to provide representatives with strategies to more effectively represent their constituencies.

Another initiative Berger has promised is Better Outreach. By facilitating partnerships between SA and various campus organizations, Berger hopes to increase the opportunities for students to voice their opinions in live and online forums. She also wants to bring back presidential and executive committee office hours, to ensure all student voices can clearly be heard.

In addition, Berger plans to implement better policies. She wants to provide advocacy for academic policy reforms and centralization, for student life policy changes, and for improved internal student assembly policies. She promises to fight for the administration to take responsibility for the academic curriculum making a series of needed changes including the addition of a Diversity Requirement.

Jordan was endorsed by many students and student organizations throughout the university. One of her most successful campaign strategies was releasing a music video, a remix the popular Wes Walker song, “Jordan Belfort”.

While Berger’s platform is well-known, there is a lot to our new SA president that you may not know. For example, her go-to order at CTB is a bagel with lox and her spirit animal is a panda. In her free time, she spends her time taking pictures and traveling. When she grows up, she wants to be a disability rights lawyer. If she could have any superpower, she would be have the ability to read minds.

It’s clear that the Cornell students are in good hands. With Berger, you can bet on a great year.
