How to Start Preparing for the Summer Music Festival Circuit

By Dani Kellner and Yasmin Alameddine

1. Attend The Chordials Spring Concert on Friday, May 1 in Statler Auditorium

As one of the only co-ed a cappella groups on campus, The Chordials specialize in performing the same alternative music you’ll hear all summer long.  So, if you just can’t wait for Gov Ball and Firefly, you’ll get those indie vibes you’re craving at The Chordials’ show.

2. Make a flower crown out of the freshly-bloomed cherry blossoms

We all Instagram them on the trees.  Might as well Instagram them in your hair.

3. Explore the Ithaca Farmer’s Market

Okay, so, maybe the Farmer’s Market isn’t exactly musical… but its hippie aura will make you feel just like you’re at a festival.

4. Look into local venues like The Haunt and The State Street Theater

Ithaca actually has a great music scene.  Check it out!

5. Go to Slope Day. Duh.

Think of Cornell’s biggest concert as prime training.  Waking up at 7am, going to whatever boozy brunch, dancing on picnic tables, then trekking to the slope–you’ll be ready for the festivals in no time!

The Chordials Spring Concert: Cocktail Hour XVIII is this Friday, May 1 at 8:30 p.m. in Alice Statler Auditorium.  Tickets are $8 in advance, and $10 at the door.  Learn more about the event here.
