Cornellians and Ithacans alike migrated to downtown Ithaca this past weekend (October 4th to 6th) to celebrate the 31st annual Ithaca’s Apple Harvest Festival. Streets of downtown Ithaca were littered with everything from craft stands, local performers every apple product you could ever imagine.
The downtown streets packed with native Ithacans, Cornell and Ithaca College students and visitors standing in long lines for over 100 unique apple products from the infamous hot apple cider, to apple donuts, caramel apples, apple pies, and apple crisp.
Michelle Valentin ’16 remarks that “the warm weather allowed for the greater Ithaca community to be able to properly celebrate the beginning of fall.”
The festival this was not just limited to apple products, however, there were over 50 different craft stands. Artisans sold handmade jewelry, ceramics, home decor, body care, specialty gifts, unique sculpture, and clothing.
The festival this year also boasted a petting zoo, rides, raffles and a large array of restaurants showcasing their fall menus.
This year’s Applefest was more than just selling apples. It was a weekend highlighting this city’s talents and natural produce, celebrating the beginning of autumn, and demonstrating the vibrant, tight knit community that Ithaca has to offer.
