Klarman Hall Isn’t The Only Change On Campus

Author: Alison Spandorfer

After years of traffic on East Avenue, Klarman Hall has finally opened on campus. With a 7,700 foot atrium, over 33,000 feet of space for students to study in, and a lecture hall that seats over 330 students, Klarman Hall is here to advance our campus – and finally provide us with clear streets.

Klarman Hall is designed with advanced technology. Allowing natural lighting and heating to save costs and to provide energy efficient temperature regulations, positively impacting the future of our campus.

But Klarman Hall’s opening isn’t the only big change to Cornell’s culture. Over the past year, Collegetown dwellers have said farewell to nighttime hotspot Pixel, the amazing Stella’s, the beloved Chapter House, and now, to Dunbar’s. With the continuous closing of bars throughout Collegetown, Level B has now become more than just your Wednesday night fishbowl outing: it might be the place to be all week(end) long.

With that being said, how will the closing of Dunbar’s impact our Collegetown lifestyle? Hopefully, new bars will begin to pop up around campus, because otherwise, CTP will just have to hire a DJ.

On the flip side, we still have CTB, but with a twist: everyone’s favorite bagel place now offers delivery daily from 10:30 AM to 1 AM. Is there anything better? As sad as we are about the closing of Dunbar’s we’re so grateful to be able to order in our favorite bagels and caffeinated beverages after a wild night out.

Additionally, during the next academic year, hotelies and AEM students will finally come together to dominate the business world. The new formation has students wondering if, as hybrids, their presences on campus will now change.  Will the hotelies still be dressed to impress in Statler? Can you still find the AEM majors crunching numbers in Mann?

This will certainly promote a large adjustment to students across campus, but it will ultimately provide them with a more well-rounded education and allow them even more opportunities to interact with the university’s various resources.

These changes on campus are just a reminder of how quickly and constantly things here at Cornell can shift. But at the end of the day, it is the same campus we know and love. So make the most of this semester–who knows what will happen?
