Once upon a time there was a magical place rife with well-priced bagels, respectful pizza vendors, reasonable rent, and a generous selection of local bars and restaurants. But the times were hard and the Collegetown youths were unaccommodating; one by one, the selection gradually dwindled. First Johnny O’s. Then The Palms. Followed by Dino’s. And then – one solemn day in September – Rulloff’s.

Legend has it Rulloff’s was the place to be.

The food was good.

The drinks were plenty.

The mood was merry.

And, best of all, everyone knew Rulloff’s was adults-only. As Courtney Lokos ’15 puts it, “for years Rulloff’s stood as an untouchable fortress for those unlucky enough to be under the legal drinking age. It was the senior Shangri La reserved for those who are 21+. Now that I am of that age… I am ready to turn up.”

So when the legendary bar and restaurant announced it was closing in September, Cornellians everywhere stopped what they were doing and threw one giant, collective fit.

Some were nostalgic.

Some were hopeful.

Most were inconsolable.

The future seemed bleak. What would be the next to go, Pixel? (Evidently, yes.)

But have no fear, fellow Cornellians. Rulloff’s rises again!! Today, February 4th, 2015, Rulloff’s Restaurant and Bar will reopen in Collegetown– Senior and Graduate Students of Cornell rejoice!

Jackie Yang ’16 sums up the general sentiment. “I’m really excited about Rulloff’s reopening! I actually just turned 21 and remember being super disappointed when I heard it closed, since I wouldn’t be able to experience it after hearing all about it.” There’s more. “Going to Rulloff’s was almost like a rite of passage—one of the biggest things you hear about and look forward to when you’re underage is how you’ll finally get into Rulloff’s when you become legal—and when that was taken away from me it was as devastating as news of a bar closing could get. But now that it’s reopening the legal dream is coming true again and I’ll get to experience what i’ve been waiting for since freshman year!”

“…Is that nerdy of me?”

No, Jackie. It’s not.

, , reopening, ruloffs, yay
