Rx for Your Ears: Sound Remedy

Author: Gaby Keane

You know those songs that you don’t just hear, but actually feel? Maybe you heard them in a certain state of mind, or with a certain person, or while in an especially good mood, but whatever the context, those songs are special. Today’s Music Review is about the person behind one of my own personal special songs: Sound Remedy’s remix of Noosa’s “Walk On By.”

Sound Remedy is a Chicago born, LA-based music producer who has slowly been gaining recognition in the EDM world. His explanation for the origin of his name is a good way of understanding the sort of tracks he puts out. “Basically [the name Sound Remedy] comes from the idea that listening to music can really help you psychologically, and even physically and emotionally. And it can have such a profound impact on your life, so the idea of Sound Remedy is just that sound can remedy pretty much anything.”

This is often what his tracks do. They are characterized by Sound Remedy’s signature midtempo genre and melodic style, which transforms dubstep, trap, house, hip-hop, and pop songs into ethereal sounding music. His sound can be categorized as future dubstep, as it maintains the bass heavy samples while layering in more melodic beats.

One of his most popular tracks, boasting almost three million plays on Soundcloud, is his  aforementioned remix of Noosa’s “Walk On By.” Sound Remedy transforms this already uplifting song into a freakin’ experience, man. It fluctuates beautifully between explosions of sound and more quiet melodic intervals, the heady emotions of which are all tempered by a steady electronic melody.

Beyond his music, Sound Remedy loves to interact with fans on social media. One of his more memorable gimmicks is #REMEDYGIVESBACK, where he will make a status or a tweet asking fans to respond with their PayPal email address so he can literally send them money he’s made off of his music. It’s quirks like this that give the impression that Sound Remedy is doing what he does because of a true love for music, regardless of fame or recognition. This is what makes his music so great–you can’t fake passion.

Currently, Sound Remedy tours to smaller level venues and releases music on his Soundcloud, as well as certain tracks on Spotify and iTunes. He is constantly collaborating with other up and coming artists, which gives his tracks a great variation in sound.
