SLOPE DAY 2016: Walk the Moon & Cash Cash

Slope Day is an annual tradition at Cornell University, during which Cornellians everywhere let loose to celebrate the end of the spring semester. Students wait with great anticipation to learn which musical acts will come to campus for the largest concert of the year. Recent acts have included big-name artists such as Chance the Rapper, Ludacris, and Kendrick Lamar. The Slope Day Programming Board released the names of this year’s artists late in the afternoon on Thursday, February 4th.

For 2016, the Programming Board decided to veer away from the rap genre, opting for a dance/ alternative vibe. The headliners for Slope Day 2016 will be Walk the Moon and Cash Cash. Walk the Moon’s most recent album, “Talking is Hard”, features the hit song “Shut Up and Dance”. While many people have heard the song on the radio, the live performance should be electrifying. The group’s other work is predominately upbeat, alternative pop music. Cash Cash, on the other hand, is an EDM band from New Jersey consisting of three members. The trio is known to produce and mix exciting beats that can be classified under party or rave music. Links to music from Cash Cash can be found below.

Although the rumors that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton would be headlining this year’s festivities turned out to be false, Walk the Moon and Cash Cash are excellent alternatives. Given that rappers have dominated recent Slope Day performances, it is nice to see a change of pace. Slope Media wishes everyone a wild (and safe) Slope Day 2016!
