This past Wednesday, Students gathered inside Ives to hear Jordan Berger and Mitch McBride share their thoughts on how they can make Cornell great again. Just kidding…it’s already pretty awesome. But seriously, they have pretty grand thoughts on how they can further improve our campus. After attending this riveting debate, Slope Media is here to provide you with an exclusive look on the candidates and their various policies.

 

Who are our candidates?

Jordan Berger:

Jordan is a Junior ILR major with a minor in Law and Society. She has served on the Student Assembly for the past three years and this year she serves at the Parliamentarian. Her slogan is “Bet On Berger.”

 

Mitch McBride:

Mitch is a Junior Government major. He currently serves as the VP of Internal Operations for the SA. His slogan is “Switch to Mitch.”

 

Their thoughts on diversity:

Berger: Has worked with the Intergroup Dialogue course and wants to expand the conversations throughout the community.

 

McBride: Wants to meet with Knight Institute to integrate diversity conversations into Freshman Writing Seminar Conversations.  

 

Their thoughts on free speech advocacy:

Berger: Wants to create forums and initiatives that will allow students to come forwards to the SA about their issues.

 

McBride: Wants to increase free speech opportunities for students by allotting time for students to protest without approval.  

 

Their thoughts on Greek Life:

Berger: Wants to help reform sexual assault policies.

 

McBride: Advocates for medical amnesty for individuals and for the organizations that call an ambulance for others.

 

Their thoughts on the Carbon Neutrality Rule – 2035 Goal:

Berger: We need to get on track to make a difference.

 

McBride: Demands more action from President Garrett.

 

Their thoughts on the new College of Business:

Berger: Allow students to have a voice and a say on this decision.

 

McBride: The students on the committees are not helping enough. The SA should have more say.

 

Their thoughts on food insecurity:

Berger: Supports Anabel’s Grocery, which provides food at a discounted price to insecure students.

 

McBride: Initially voted against Anabel’s Grocery, but now that it is passed, he desires to improve it and make it the best it can be.
