It always seems as though the worst things happen to the best people. There you are, minding your own business on what has so far been a perfect day, when your text-tone sounds. As you pull out your phone, your attention shifts to the text you just got from mom and you fail to notice the water slick in front of you. You lose your footing, and watch helplessly as your phone slips from your grasp, and slams on the ground. Instantly, you experience this flood of emotions.
1) Shock

For a whole minute, it all flashes before your eyes. Every memory the two of you shared for the past years suddenly comes rushing back – every concert you went to together, every meal you shared on instagram, all the ups and downs you let the social media world know about. You know this can’t be how things end.
2) Fear

Of course, every time it drops you have to deal with the unsettling anxiety of the screen landing face-down. It’s some kind of twister Schrödinger’s cat-esque situation where you know that your phone is both perfectly fine, but also completely destroyed at the same time.
3) Anger

Why does this always seem to happen to you? Did you forget to forward one of the sketchy chain texts in middle school? At this point, you don’t even want to pick up your phone. You know that the second you do, you’ll see the shattered remains of your life and want to throw your phone against the wall. On second thought… maybe that’s not such a great idea.
4) Guilt

Your parents are going to kill you– you can’t let them know what happened, or they’ll be so disappointed. I mean, you just got this new phone last month. Why? Because you dropped the old one and broke it. Well, maybe you can try to convince them that the third one won’t break because the third time’s the charm?
5) Surprise

Weird, you totally expected the screen to actually break this time, considering this is the 47th time this week that you’ve managed to act like a complete klutz. At this point, you’re wondering why you even bother paying an extra $10 a month for the insurance you have on it.
6) Relief

Naturally, the final emotion to flood your senses is that of pure relief. In what can only be described an act of divine intervention, somehow your phone has managed to survive yet another day of your overall lack of grace and coordination. You can breathe a little bit easier knowing that you won’t have to tell mom and dad you broke yet another phone. Realizing what a close call that was, you’ll swear to yourself that you’ll be much more careful from now on…but let’s be real. You’ll probably drop it ten more times this week alone.
