This week in 1918, the indoor track & field team improved in its abilities and witnessed great success as a whole. Both the freshmen and varsity candidates made giant strides from the week prior, with 47 men participating, consisting of 29 varsity athletes and 18 rookies. The performance of freshmen during the season had not been up to par based on previous years, but this fact quickly changed.

Mayer emerged victorious in the five-lap race and claimed second place in the series of trials for the two-mile relay team. He registered a time of one minute and 43 seconds, while Fortier finished in second and Dresser crossed the line in third for their respective legs of the relay. This group was next scheduled to meet Penn in a dual meet at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD.

Besides just track, various records were set in other events that included a very tough field of competition. Grigson was the winner of pole vault, jumping 10 feet and six inches. Stone conquered the high jump with five feet and four inches. Smith and Stone also tied for first in broad jump at 19 feet.

Cleminshaw earned first place over Smith in the 50-yard dash and won the two-lap varsity race. In addition, Smith was victorious in the 60-yard high hurdle, and Cleminshaw defeated Smith in the 70-yard low hurdle with Smith coming in second. Both Cornell athletes competed evenly throughout the day, as this hurdle race represented the closest finish between the two.
