“How would you describe your own music in just a few words?”
“Tropkillaz Style…We don’t follow people, we make our own.”
This no-effs-given response perfectly encapsulates the attitudes of Brazilian natives DJ Zegon and Laudz, who make up the EDM duo Tropkillaz. Their music is a breath of fresh air for the EDM genre, which has become oversaturated with the same bass drops and pop music samples. Tropkillaz describes their tracks as “club bangers that blend Trap and Bass music with Electro, Hip Hop, and Latin samples in a unique style.”
While this description succesfully contains all the elements of a Tropkillaz song, you won’t understand just how unique the style is without actually listening to one of their hype tracks. The songs often start with an old school sample that evolves into a spliced electronic version of itself before exploding into a fast-paced trap party. DJ Zegon encourages those who aren’t necessarily EDM fans to take a listen, because “Tropkillaz has a little something for everyone.”

The story of Tropkillaz’s 2010 beginning is as laidback and modern as the men making its music. Laudz, the young, “new school” half of the group, used Twitter to reach out to DJ Zegon, the “old school” half with over 20 years of respected DJ and production work in Brazil.
Clips and beats sent back and forth between the two eventually evolved into a track which they shared on their Soundcloud, Facebook, and other social networking sites. The strong reaction from listeners prompted the duo to create more tracks, including “Mambo,” the underground hit that boosted Tropkillaz to worldwide attention. The duo began releasing song after song on Soundcloud, and can now claim over 50 original tracks and remixes as well as sold out shows in venues from Brazil to Russia.

Tropkillaz is quickly finding success in America, with support from powerhouse DJs such as Diplo and his Mad Decent label, trap group Flosstradamus, DJ Steve Aoki, and more. Add in their multiple features on top music sites, and something suggests this is just the beginning for this crazy fun duo.
