If last night’s election results proved anything, it’s that we need educated voters. Now, as Cornell students you’ll be able to do just that at tonight’s Presidential Debate. That’s right, Cornell will be hosting the next great presidential debate tonight at 7:30PM, in 305 Ives Hall. Granted it’s not a debate between US presidential candidates, but for the next President of the Student Assembly–but that’s still a pretty big deal.
Know the Candidates

Tonight we will meet the candidates for President of the Student Assembly: Mitchell McBride and Jordan Berger. Both candidates are currently members of the Student Assembly, and have been involved with student government for quite some time now. McBride ‘17 was previously a College of Arts & Sciences Representative, and is currently the Vice President for Internal Operations. Berger ‘17 has served as the Parliamentarian for the Student Assembly for the past three years.
Hear Their Platforms

If you check their websites, you will of course be able to see the platforms which they are running upon, as well as their records and achievements. What their websites won’t show you, however, is how the candidates will defend their records and positions once they’re put to the test tonight. Will the candidates be able to ignite voter enthusiasm, or will they crash and burn? Only one way to find out!
Be an Educated Voter

Once you’ve come out to watch the debate, met the candidates, heard their platforms and their arguments defending them, you’ll be that much closer to making an informed decision when voting begins later this month! Hopefully you’re just as excited about election season as we are. So forget about studying for an hour or so, and come catch Slope Media at the debate tonight as we hear what the candidates have to say!
The Student Assembly Presidential Debate will be moderated by the Cornell Speech & Debate Society tonight, Wednesday March 2nd, at 7:30pm in Ives 305 during Professor Sam Nelson’s Argumentation and Debate class. To learn more about the candidates, please visit their websites:
