The motive behind this abominable father!
Clearly, Maureen Brand had no idea about the true nature of her partner Hugo Ferreira. If she had, she would never have chosen him to be the father of her daughter! This horrific story unfolds in South Africa, in the Gauteng province.
After living together for some time, Brand and Ferreira decided to have a child. However, the father had no idea of the challenges that lay ahead. A week after the birth of their daughter, Brand entrusted her to her partner because she needed to go grocery shopping.
Brand had mentioned it would only take her five minutes. However, she encountered a delay. At home, the baby was crying profusely because she was hungry. This situation infuriated the father to the utmost degree, leading him to commit the irreversible!
In the plea, it was stated that Ferreira first raped the week-old baby. He then pressed her head against a surface. When Brand returned, she immediately rushed her child to the hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors could not save her, and she died the following day!
The father confesses to everything in front of the judge!
Naturally, Brand called the police and informed them of the father’s actions. This was enough for them to incarcerate him pending his trial. During his hearing with Judge Portia Phahlane, Ferreira stated that he felt “unhappy” that day.
After several sessions, the pedophile father finally confessed to his crime. According to him: “I grabbed the baby violently by the back of her neck and hit her bottom several times, pushing her against the surface on which I was working”. Even though he had taken methamphetamine, he claimed he did it of his own volition!
Ferreira continued, saying: “I acknowledge that it was a cruel and horrible attack, especially on such a young baby. The act was clearly illegal, and I did it intentionally”. He reportedly asked to be locked up by the police, fearing he might kill his own wife!
The despicable father concluded his account by stating: “When her mother returned, I realized she would see that something was wrong. I kept the baby away from her until later in the day. I did this because I realized that the baby was severely injured”.
A sentence worthy of the greatest criminals!
Upon listening to the account of this father devoid of any conscience, Judge Phahlane was astounded. She described his actions as “brutal, merciless, and monstrous”. Even though the accused had confessed, she did not believe he warranted a reduced sentence.
According to Judge Phahlane: “For the charge of murder, you will be sentenced to life imprisonment, and for the charge of rape, you will also be sentenced to life imprisonment. There will be no mitigation”.
