A Thank You Note to Martha Pollack for Our Snow Day
By Rachel Schneider
Dear Martha,
I have to admit that I was in utter shock—truly at a loss for words—when I received that Cornell Alert Sunday night at 8:46pm. With a grand total of only 4 snow days in Cornell’s entire winter history, it’s safe to say that your decision to cancel Monday’s classes this week blew away the Big Red family. At first, I was extremely frustrated that I had woken up at 6:45 A.M. to catch an earlier bus ride (that almost got into an accident) just to make it back in time for school on Monday. Luckily, my emotional rollercoaster quickly reached excitement instead. As my bus approached campus at 15 mph for the last hour of the ride, I began to dream of what this epic college snow day might look like.
On behalf of the whole student body, we wanted to thank you, Martha. I am sure that this decision was not an easy one. Please do not worry, the day did not go to waste. Up on North Campus, the freshmen had the unique opportunity to bond over wholesome snow day activities. From building snowmen together to sledding on campus side by side to playing in the snow all day long, it was truly a blast. Just in case you haven’t checked your Instagram feed in awhile, the slope was filled with adventurous sledders seizing this once in a lifetime opportunity. It would be an understatement to say that Monday was an absolutely spectacular surprise.
We hope that this isn't the last snow day in your system. While us Cornellians have come to never expect a snow day, you just gave us a taste of the sweet life and we want more. With that in mind, please feel inclined to give us another one soon!
With love,
Your Grateful Snow Day Loving Students
