An Ode to My Humidifier

The seasons are changing and you’re starting to get a case of the sniffles. It’s nothing serious – probably just the common cold or maybe even allergies – but you’re a bit run down and can’t help but blow your nose or sneeze every now and then. You’re left thinking there’s nothing you can do to kick this cold, and you’re just going to have to let it run its course. Until, suddenly, you remember that obscure item your mom made you bring to school that you thought you would never use: a humidifier.

A humidifier is a device that works to keep the air moist, but I never really considered it to be very useful until I got to college. Sure, there were times when I was feeling sick at home and my parents would lug out our huge, clunky humidifier. But, the product has developed a whole new meaning nowadays.

I have a personal, mini, portable, light pink one that is my savior and new best friend. Not only is it tiny and cute, but I must say, I’ve noticed its benefits. I fill it up almost every night, it keeps the air moist and cool until the morning, and I truly believe it helps me fall asleep when I’m feeling sick. It gives a whole new meaning to “small but mighty.”

It seems as though nearly everyone that I know at school has invested in a small, personal humidifier to adorn their nightstands, and if you haven’t yet, this is your sign that you should. They’re so simple and easy to use and they can save your night if you find yourself tossing and turning because you’re up sniffling. You will feel like you’re at a spa or sitting on the beach getting misted by the ocean water as you are trying to fall asleep. It’s so soothing and calming– who wouldn’t want that?

So, to my humidifier: even that one time when I filled you up way too high and water leaked all over my stuff, you’ve really come in handy. Thank you for being a constant source of relief for these past two years I’ve been at school. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed.
