The Best TV Episodes to Get You in the Fall Spirit
By Amanda Kaplowitz
Gilmore Girls on Netflix
It’s officially Fall, which means the leaves are changing, pumpkins are coming out, and the costumes are being prepared for Halloween. There are lots of things you can do to get yourself into the “Fall mood,” but one of the best things I can think of is curling up in a blanket and watching some great Fall-themed TV episodes. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Gilmore Girls, “Kiss and Tell”
Gilmore Girls is practically synonymous with the autumnal season. The entire vibe of the show gives off Fall energy since the backdrop is a quaint, Connecticut town complete with autumn foliage and hayrides. While there are many episodes that scream Fall, this episode is my favorite, stocked with orange and yellow decorations, characters dressed as pilgrims, and the “Autumn Festival” happening in the town square.
2. Friends, “The One with the Football”
This episode, like many Friends episodes, is sure to make you laugh. It’s Thanksgiving Day and the friends all decide to play a game of touch football in the park before their Thanksgiving dinner. But, it gets pretty competitive, so it’s exciting to see who ends up winning. It will certainly leave you feeling ready for the season.
3. New Girl, “Halloween”
In this episode of New Girl, all of the characters go to a haunted house decked out in funny costumes, since Jess, the protagonist, is working there. There are also some romances starting to blossom, which elevates the plot. This is a quintessential Halloween-themed episode– complete with spooky clowns, pumpkin carving, and zombie makeup. It is perfect to watch in October.
4. Gossip Girl, “The Treasure of Serena Madre”
This episode is set at a big Thanksgiving dinner with all of the characters. So much drama unfolds here, making this a really fun episode to watch. While Thanksgiving may still be a while away, the decor and food that are featured are sure to get you feeling festive. And, getting to see the Fall season in New York City is definitely a plus.
5. Stranger Things, “Trick or Treat, Freak”
Since the whole show is spooky, you know that the Halloween episode is sure to deliver. Stranger Things is set in the 1980s when Ghostbusters was all the rage. The boys dress up as Ghostbusters, and their costumes will definitely get you in the mood to go full out for Halloween this year.
