What to Watch During Wellness Days

Two days off from class, sandwiching the weekend like a CTB panini, means that we have four days to relax! And seriously, please take some time to relax.  You deserve this break!

I’ve noticed that I haven’t had enough time to keep up with my shows (I’m currently watching Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and I May Destroy You) so I will be catching up on that. You know, when I’m not picnicking on the slope, taking hikes at every gorge, meditating, and having socially distanced coffee dates with friends. Maybe, like me, you’re being a little ambitious for all the wellness day plans you’re making, but here are a few more to add to the list. Grab some popcorn… or some Thai tea mochi ice cream (check out Slope TV’s latest video) and get ready for some wellness weekend watching that matches whatever vibe you’re going for.

I want some fun rom-coms to take my mind off things.

You came to the right person. I’m a huge fan of the cheesy, the unrealistic, and the downright silly. Here’s your schedule:

Friday: The Princess Diaries (Disney+)

An all-time favorite and a great way to spring into a rejuvenating and fun break!

Saturday: Mamma Mia! (Peacock)

My housemates and I watched this recently and I haven’t been able to stop singing the music since. (It doesn’t help that I’ve also been playing the CD in my car because apparently I still listen to CDs.) Meryll Streep, random ABBA songs, and Greece! What more could we ask for?  A blissful movie.

Sunday: 10 Things I Hate About You (Disney+)

This is one of my favorite rom-coms, maybe because it’s based on Shakespeare and I have a soft spot for that, or because it’s so 90s it hurts.

Monday: Pitch Perfect (HBO Max)

As our wellness days come to an end, Pitch Perfect is on the docket to remind us that school is around the corner, but in a fun way. When’s the last time you did the cup song? If the answer isn’t anytime soon, we need to change this.

I want a show I can binge in four days.

GOT YOU.

Friday: Over The Garden Wall, episodes 1, 2, 3 (HBO Max)

Saturday: Over The Garden Wall, episodes 4, 5, 6 (HBO Max)

Sunday: Over The Garden Wall, episodes 7, 8 (HBO Max)

Monday: Over The Garden Wall, episodes 9, 10 (HBO Max)

Over The Garden Wall is a cartoon about two brothers who are lost and on a journey to get back home. Only one season at eleven minutes per episode, this show is super easy to binge.  It only took me two sittings!  Even if Cartoon Network isn’t normally your thing, I’d highly recommend you give it a try; it surprised me how much I fell in love with the characters and the worlds they found themselves in.

High School Musical Marathon.

These don’t need an explanation.  The one thing I will say, though, is I’m almost certain you forgot about Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure and have seen it once, tops.  So why not revisit it and see if it stands the test of time?

Friday: High School Musical (DIsney+)

Saturday: High School Musical 2 (DIsney+)

Sunday: High School Musical 3 (DIsney+)

Monday: Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (DIsney+)

I want to be stressed.

Okay, weirdo. If two days without classes are leaving a hole in your heart where stress should be, these movies will fill it. These are edge-of-your-seat movies.

Friday: Never Rarely Sometimes Always (HBO Max)

I didn’t feel like I could trust this movie. At every turn, I expected something awful to happen.  The acting felt raw and real, and I just wanted the best for the two main characters.

Saturday: The Shining (HBO Max)

Have you seen The Shining before? If not, you just have to! This is a good Saturday night movie to watch with some friends who are down to get scared.

Sunday: Pieces of a Woman (Netflix)

All I’m going to say is: Very. Long. Childbirth. Scene. The story follows a couple after the loss of their baby, and how they deal (or don’t deal) with grief.

Monday: Blindspotting (TNT, TBS, or rent)

Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs plays a man on probation with a friend who has never dealt with the same consequences and continues to push boundaries. The movie deals with race, class, and gentrification.

I want to laugh.

Nothing like having a nice laugh with some friends for a light-hearted movie night.

Friday: King of Staten Island (HBO Max)

I didn’t have an opinion of Pete Davidson before watching this, but I really enjoyed the movie!

Saturday: It’s a Disaster (Hulu)

If you take only one of my recommendations, make it this one! This movie felt like a farce, and its theatricality was appealing to me. Plus, its end-of-the-world plotline matches the current energy of the pandemic! Awesome!

Sunday: Napoleon Dynamite (Hulu)

A fun way to escape 2021 college is to enjoy a movie about 1980s high school.

Monday: The Lovebirds (Netflix)

This movie is kind of dumb, but shouldn’t comedies be a little dumb? The two components of The Lovebirds are relationship problems and murder, which is a chaotic combination.

Hopefully, some of these recommendations resonate with you and you have an entertaining long weekend! Whether you’re hiking, binge-watching, catching up on sleep, or all of the above, I hope you fill your time with relaxation and fun.
