Sounds Like: Andrew Bird, Peter, Bjorn & John, Sting (apparently?)
For those of you who have missed the Walk the off the Earth viral video covering Gotye’s song “Somebody that I used to know”, or maybe haven’t seen that Gotye is on the Coachella 2012 lineup, Gotye is definitely on the rise. A native Belgian who grew up in Australia, Wouter de Backer has been releasing music in Australia since 2003, but has only now started becoming popular in the U.S.
Gotye’s album Making Mirrors is a collection of 80′s synth pop mixed in with new and experimental sounds. I often found myself confused if I was still listening to the same album because the songs were so different from one another. Gotye creates music that uses a variety of instruments, like natural sounds or pieces of a fence, and then he uses them to create an individual song.
Gotye is definitely someone to watch, and considering how different each song is from the next, I would be excited to see how he changes from this album to the next.
