Motivational Songs To Get You Through
By Ana Schonander
We’re almost at Thanksgiving break and the worst is over. . . we hope. The whole month of October and first few weeks of November have been those kinds of weeks in which you told yourself “This week is my bad week” and “It will get better” until the next Monday rolled around and you repeated the same pattern. Whether you’ve been buried in prelims and homework assignments or you had professors trying to squeeze everything in before Thanksgiving break, it’s been hell.
Pushing through the second round of prelims has shown us that there’s no way around it- we need music to help us through it. We need to ignore Martha Pollack’s requests to take out our headphones, because our music is a necessary tool for this time of year. Not only is listening to music the best hobby, but more so it’s a great motivator. There’s a reason that athletes have music blasting in their ears while they practice or in the locker room before games. It pumps us up for what's ahead. Here are some songs to get you through to Thanksgiving break and even carry you through finals.
Don’t Bring Me Down - Electric Light Orchestra
When I am walking uphill to the Ag quad, getting ready to face the day, this is my go-to song. As long as it’s blasting in my headphones, nothing can distract me from keeping a positive attitude. (Not even my burning thighs)
Motivation - Normani
If you’re looking for something a little more recent, nothing gets you more inspired than a song that has motivation built right into its title. This tune has an upbeat vibe that makes you want to dance your problems away, forget all about your studying, and instead bop your head right along to the music.
Win - Jay Rock
Nominated for Best Rap Song at the 2019 Grammys, this trumpet heavy track will squash any prelim nerves or stress and simply make you feel on top of the world.
Stronger - Kanye West
There’s nothing like a 2000s classic to put a smile on your face. Plus, you can choose between listening to Kanye’s version or Daft Punks “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.
Whether you’re trying to psych yourself up for a big exam, or you just know that you have a long day ahead of you, music will be by your side (or in your ears) to guide you each step of the way.
